The Other Woman
it’s two A.M when she gets the call
“hey beautiful.”
he tells her how he misses her
her voice, her camaraderie,
her spirit
(sweet talk)
she tells him how he’s
full of shit but she continues
listening none the less
she wants so badly to believe
he deserves another shot at
redemption
that things have changed
that he’s changed
then the conversation takes
a familiar turn and he begins
to describe to her the things
that he really misses
(dirty talk)
she fights her cravings but
this is a drug she has tried to quit
many times before
there is euphoria in the way he
desires her so fervently but
when she comes down from
her blissful high she crashes hard
shaking with loneliness
and shame
an addict to false affections
with no support group to turn to

Art Appreciation
after thoroughly exhausting the snooze button
you finally turned off your alarm
let out an exaggerated sigh
and rolled slowly onto your side
“hey you”
you smiled softly at me and
I reached for one of your perfect
curls to playfully tug
the room smelled like sex and weed
you asked if I wanted a glass of water
I kissed the space in between
your shoulder and your neck and
replied “please” I was
dehydrated from too much
drinking and ready to
eliminate the morning after
taste of cigarettes and Jack Daniels
you threw off the comforter
and rose from the bed-
you were still naked
I put on my glasses so I could
enjoy this attraction at it’s
full potential
damn you were exquisite
from your piercing eyes
to your pierced left nipple
you belonged in a museum
I was a wide eyed tourist
visiting your mattress
speechless and aroused
after thoroughly exhausting the snooze button
you finally turned off your alarm

Acid Reflux
every night it’s the same ordeal
it takes her hours of tossing and turning
to finally reach that deep, sweet sleep
then right around midnight
by some curse or voodoo
she begins to awake
every hour on the hour
choking on the acid that
has climbed up her throat
she cries and waddles
as fast as she can
to the toilet and spits
out the fiery fluid
her throat burns like the
injustice of the situation
she chugs a glass then a second
of bathroom tap water
but she cannot kill the burn and
the taste of bile remains as fresh
as her frustration towards God
and this unborn baby
and as foul as her anger for the
boy who put her here
every night it’s the same ordeal
it takes her hours of tossing and turning
to finally reach that deep, sweet sleep
then right around midnight
by some curse or voodoo
she begins to awake
every hour on the hour
choking on the acid that
has climbed up her throat
